Elger Bay Preserve

Elger Bay Preserve

One of many great day hike options on Camano Island, Elger Bay Preserve offers several interpretive trails with beautiful views across Elger Bay.
Trail Overview
Trailhead: Begin at the main trailhead sign.
Initial Path: Take a right onto a wide, grassy path. The trail gently rolls up and down as it leads to the first junction.
South Hill Trail: At the junction, turn right onto the South Hill section. This path ascends to a hilltop amphitheater — a perfect spot for a picnic or an outdoor learning session.
Nature Loop: Continue along the South Hill Trail until you reach the next junction, where you’ll reconnect with the main nature loop.
Return: Continue along the trail and take a left at the next junction to loop back to the original trailhead sign
Trail Features
The trail meanders through serene woods, occasionally encountering muddy patches or downed trees, but remains well-maintained.
Nature identification signs and directional posts are placed at every junction for easy navigation.
At 1.1 miles, you’ll reach the beaver marsh — a peaceful spot ideal for a snack or water break.
Educational Value
The combination of the beaver marsh and amphitheater makes this trail an excellent resource for educators and nature enthusiasts to explore ecosystems, interpretive principles, and environmental learning.
