Farm Ashram Camano Island

the farm itself is a beautiful 20 acres on the south end of camano island. approximately 1/3 native habitat, 1/3 garden-orchard, and 1/3 alpaca meadow and developing food forest. currently there are over 12 full time human residents,  a growing community of neighbors and friends, 7 alpacas, 5 goats, 3 pigs, 2 dogs, 4 cats, chickens, more chickens, and an ever expanding life-scape of trees, gardens, birds and bees. it’s healthy, happy, and a bit wild looking.throughout the year, we participate in farmers markets and other events, host volunteer days, kid’s camps, farm suppers and tours, workshops, yoga classes, and much more. bless you for reading this far! hope to see you on the farm.as a natural farm we are committed to farming with the best tools we have: our own two hands, and a love for life. we are actively and listening-ly exploring the consciousness of nature (and the nature of consciousness) in the soil, seeds, trees, animals, and our very selves.‘natural farming ’itself is a consciousness, not a method; both a universal, ancient way of life, and direction forward for all of humanity, in this very moment.“i love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which god speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.” george washington carveras a homestead, we are ever-inspired by the spirit of community self-reliance and ‘craft culture’, as ghandi immortalized in the image of the spinning wheel in india. from time immemorial, the localized ‘village’ culture of humanity has sustained people all over the world.as a community, we seek to produce and share prana-filled food, and aspire to provide for all basic needs that are required for simple, joyful living – including a holistic line of natural-infused herbal products and home remedies, alpaca fiber textiles, soap, candles, tooth powder, baked goods, bulk foods, and much more.“we make our living by living.” as a yoga ashram, we follow the universal, yogic teachings of the great indian master, paramhansa yogananda. these are centered in the daily practice of meditation and kriya yoga, and through the corresponding application of yogic principles on the farm and in our shared community life.yoga itself means “union”; to realize yoga is to realize our own oneness with all life. as an ashram, we live in community, share in all aspects of life, and support each other in living with spiritual purpose, focused on the goal of self realization. may we all be one in the light someday.“the goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings” masanobu fukuoka“to seek happiness outside ourselves is like trying to lasso a cloud. happiness is not a thing. it is a state of mind.” –paramhansa yogananda
